The Clumber Spaniel is named after his founder's county seat - Clumber Park. Developed by gamekeepers for the Duke of Newcastle-under-Tyne, and descendents. The breed was many years in development but established in 1788. Always basically white for ease of location in his native terrain of heavy undergrowth the Clumber retains most of his early characteristics.

He is an excellent family dog but also adapts very well to a kennel situation. biddable and keen to please he does love his individual attention but he also loves all family members. Very easy to care for, with a silken coat that cleans with brushing., the Clumber needs to be brushed just once a week and have excess hair trimmed from around his feet once every three weeks.

Most are natural swimmers, but need daily exercise. The breed still retains an excellent reputation for tracking and field work.
